About Literacy Partners of Kewaunee County

Learning to read

Literacy Partners of Kewaunee County, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Kewaunee County area residents through literacy. Founded in 2006, we have more than 30 active volunteers, a dedicated Board of Directors, and committed supporters who have impacted our community literacy effort.

We provide one-on-one tutoring for adults who wish to improve their reading, writing, and English speaking skills. Some of our students have gained first-time employment, while others have received promotions at work.

Our trained tutors come from all walks of life and overwhelmingly agree that the choice to tutor was one of the best decisions they have made. Our Board of Directors meets every two months and makes policies for the organization that look out for the best interests of our students, as well as tutors.

“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society. It is a bulwark against poverty, and a building block of development, an essential complement to investments in roads, dams, clinics and factories.”
― Kofi Annan

Our Vision

Literacy training strives to improve participants’ basic linguistic skills in order to enrich and expand the potential for family and community life.

The goal of an English literacy program is to improve the reading, comprehension, writing, and speaking skills of Kewaunee County participants.
